In celebration of Black History Month’s 36th Anniversary

In celebration of Black History Month’s 36th Anniversary, Nike has created an exclusive collection for tennis star Serena Williams. The collection is inspired by achievement and the pioneering spirit of three important historical sports teams: the 1996 USA Basketball Women’s team, 2002 Brazil Men’s Soccer team and the 2008 Kenyan Long-Distance running team. Each of these teams answered the call to greatness and their legacies continue to uplift and inspire their communities today.
Throughout the month of February, Nike athletes will wear products from the Black History Month 2012 Collection. For the collection, Nike designers selected signature apparel and footwear silhouettes from the brand’s rich heritage and developed a unique pattern reflective of vibrant colors and spirit of their distinct cultures.
Serena Williams will be the first Nike athlete to wear the Nike Black History Month 2012 pattern in Melbourne as the Australia Open. Her personal collection consists of the Nike Sportswear BHM Destroyer Jacket, BHM Seasonal Knit jacket, BHM C72 Bag and the Nike BHM Air Max Mirabella 3, all bearing the BHM mark to signify this special collection.
